Keep a Record of the Choices Behind the Result

An achievement can hide the decisions that made it possible—and the trade-offs that came with it. Try a short decision record for one meaningful effort:

  • What outcome did I choose, and why did it matter to me?
  • Which decision was mine to make and explain?
  • What did I choose not to prioritize?
  • What would I keep or change next time?

This isn’t another scorecard. It’s a way to notice whether your effort reflects your values, even when the result depended partly on things you couldn’t control. It also makes responsibility specific: own the choice you made, not every circumstance around it.

One honest entry is enough to start. Achievement should leave you with more than a result; it can also leave you with clearer judgment about what you want to own next.
