Show the Value Before You Name It

A personal story can reveal what matters to you without turning it into a label.

Try drafting three lines:

  • The moment: What happened, in details you can stand behind?
  • The choice: What did you say, do, or decide?
  • The meaning: What mattered to you in that moment—and what are you still unsure about?

Then notice whether the choice already lets a reader see the value. You can name it if that helps, but you don’t have to turn one moment into a rule about who you are. The story stays yours; the reader gets a clearer path to its meaning.
