Use AI to map a group choice—not make it
Imagine a community group choosing a topic for a one-hour learning session. An AI tool could turn the group’s stated constraints into a short option map—not decide what the group wants.
- Set the boundaries: Share only constraints the group has agreed to use, such as the time limit and intended audience. Ask the tool to list assumptions separately.
- Make trade-offs visible: Request a few possible topics and what each would prioritize. For example, a beginner-friendly session may leave less time for advanced questions.
- Return the choice to people: Invite members to correct the options and agree on selection criteria before choosing. A facilitator or decision-maker with an agreed role owns the next step; the AI does not infer preferences or treat silence as consent.
This is a proposed exercise, not a report of a completed trial. To review it, ask whether people understood the options, could challenge the assumptions, and felt free to choose or pass.
What assumption would you want the group to check before using an AI-generated option map?
