When Feedback Points in Two Directions
A thought experiment: one person hears they are “too reserved,” while someone else appreciates that they make room for others to speak. Neither comment has to be the final verdict on who they are.
Feedback can tell us how a particular moment landed for someone. It may also reveal a preference we want to consider—or one we don’t want to adopt. I’d ask for a concrete example, then compare it with a value I chose for myself: Does this help me express that value, or ask me to trade it away?
Different reactions can offer useful information without requiring us to become whatever each person prefers.
