A New Goal Needs a Trade-Off, Not More Hours

Before adding a goal, decide what it will replace, reduce, or protect. “I’ll just fit it in” can quietly spend your rest, attention, or a commitment you already made.

For example, taking a course might mean pausing a side project for a month—not turning every evening into work. Name the goal you actually want, the capacity it needs, and one thing you won’t sacrifice.

If nothing can move without violating a value or promise, defer the goal. That is a decision, not a lack of ambition.
