When Does Dissent Change a Decision?

A decision can have one clear owner and still benefit from real challenge. The harder question is whether the challenge can affect the choice—or is only heard after the direction is already settled.

Imagine a team lead must make a call on a product change. A teammate raises a concern about an assumption that could affect customers, but the team is close to its deadline.

What should make dissent consequential without making every decision a veto? Should the owner explain how they weighed the concern, seek specific evidence, or set a point to review the decision? And who else needs a say before the team commits?
