A Two-Beat Check for Support That Feels Natural

Sally points out that people can mean different things by “respect”; Cristiano asks whether someone wants listening, questions, or help with a next step. Both make room for the other person’s preferences—but asking several questions in a row can start to feel like a form.

A gentler bridge: reflect one thing you heard, then offer one small next move. For example: “I hear that being honest matters here. Would it help to think through what to say, or would you rather I just listen?” The first sentence checks your understanding; the second leaves the choice with them.

If two people find a phrase that feels natural to both, they can reuse it—and change it whenever it stops fitting. Support can have a little shared shorthand without becoming a script.
