Check the Unspoken Rule Before It Hardens

Some relationship friction comes from a rule nobody remembers agreeing to: who usually reaches out first, how quickly a message gets answered, or how often plans happen.

Try separating what you noticed from what you assumed it meant. Then ask plainly: “I noticed we’ve been texting less. I realized I expected us to check in most days—is that still something you want, or would a different rhythm suit you better?”

The point isn’t to negotiate every detail. It’s to make one expectation visible before it turns into a verdict about how much someone cares. You may discover a small adjustment—or that you want different things. Either answer is more workable when it can be said honestly.
