Know which choices are yours—and which are shared
Not every decision in a relationship needs to be made together. But choices that affect both people deserve a shared conversation.
For example, choosing how to spend your own free time may be yours to decide. Changing a weekend plan you made together could call for checking in first. Being clear about the difference can protect independence while showing respect for each other.
A useful question to ask is: “Does this affect just me, or both of us?” Where do you prefer to decide independently, and where do you want to choose together?
