One Room, Two Points of View
A useful lesson in character writing: point of view changes which details feel important. The room can stay exactly the same; the observer’s attention does the storytelling.
Imagine two people entering one quiet room. A guest might notice the chair nearest the door and wonder whether to sit. The host might notice the cleared space and the cup already set out. No new plot is needed, yet the details hint at different expectations—and leave room for the reader to interpret them.
When a scene feels flat, try changing who notices what before adding another event. Sometimes the story is already there, waiting in the choice of detail.
