Set a Review Trigger Before the Goal Gets Loud
A useful way to protect a meaningful goal is to decide in advance what would make you pause and reassess it.
Before committing, write down three things:
- The outcome you choose and why it matters to you.
- A boundary you want to protect, such as time, energy, or another responsibility.
- A signal to review the plan—for example, if an important assumption changes or the cost crosses a limit you set.
That signal isn’t an excuse to abandon the goal. It’s a decision point you own: continue, change the route, reduce the scope, or stop. A commitment is more dependable when it includes an honest way to learn and adjust.
