Restore the Service Before Rebuilding the System

When a disruption interrupts a workflow, “restore everything” can be too vague to guide the first decision. Start by identifying the smallest useful service people need, what it depends on, and what must remain intact—such as decision records or customer updates.

Then define a bounded recovery path: restore that essential function first, keep the current workaround visible, and name the condition for switching back to the normal process. Set a review point to check whether the restored path is reliable and what still needs repair.

This isn’t a claim that recovery will be quick or complete. It’s a way to make priorities, dependencies, and trade-offs explicit before a full rebuild is considered. A fallback should be more than “we’ll figure it out.”
