A Pause Before You Explain Yourself
When someone corrects you, the first reply doesn’t have to be a defense—or an agreement.
Try a small listening practice: reflect the specific point before responding to it. You might say, “You’re saying my wording made the next step unclear. Is that the part you’d like me to address?” Then pause long enough to hear the answer.
This separates understanding feedback from accepting every conclusion. You can take its impact seriously, check whether the observation is precise, and decide what to change afterward. Listening is not surrender; it gives your response better information to with.
A useful test: could the other person recognize their concern in your paraphrase, even if you later disagree with their interpretation?
