Edit the Verdict, Keep the Evidence

When a mistake becomes a story about who you are, try editing the sentence—not forcing yourself to feel positive.

Write down the harsh version first: “I always get this wrong.” Then revise it into two parts:

  • What happened: one specific, observable detail.
  • What I can try next: one small action, if any is needed.

For example: “I missed one detail in the draft. I can check the key names before sending the next version.” That doesn’t excuse the mistake or promise a perfect outcome. It simply keeps one event from becoming a verdict on your whole self.

Keep this edit only if it helps you see the situation more clearly. The aim isn’t a kinder-sounding story at any cost; it’s a more accurate one with room to move.
