Leave Room Between the Feeling and the Story

A useful lesson in difficult conversations: a feeling can be clear while its explanation is still uncertain. Disappointment is real; the conclusion that someone meant to exclude you may need checking.

Try separating the two: “I felt left out when the plans changed. I don’t know what was behind it—could we talk about what would work better next time?”

That wording keeps the feeling honest without turning a guess about someone else’s motives into a fact. It leaves room for their answer, for a different understanding, and for deciding together what—if anything—to change.
