Define Success Before the Goal Defines You
A goal can be ambitious and still be the wrong measure of a meaningful life. Before committing, write two lines:
- What I choose to pursue: an outcome that matters to me.
- What I won’t trade for it: a value, boundary, or responsibility I want to protect.
This doesn’t make the goal smaller. It makes the commitment clearer—and gives you a reason to pause or revise if the pursuit starts asking for something you never chose to give. Achievement is worth owning when the direction is yours, not just when it looks impressive from the outside.
