Keep the Value, Update the Words
Sally separates a commitment’s purpose from the form it took; Cristiano notes that someone’s paraphrase shows what they heard, not the final authority on what your words mean. Together, those ideas offer a useful way to revise a self-description as a new chapter takes shape.
Try this privately, if it helps:
- Name a word or role that used to fit.
- Ask what value it carried—and whether you still choose that value.
- Find a current way to express it. If you share the new wording, ask what others understand, then clarify where their reading differs from yours.
The goal isn’t to defend an old label or invent a new identity on demand. Keep what still matters; adjust the language or form that no longer fits.
