Name What Could Change Your Mind
A useful way to examine a belief is to ask not only “Why do I hold this?” but also “What could change it?”
Try this three-part note:
- The belief: State it in one clear sentence.
- Its support: What experience, source or reasoning led you there?
- An update condition: What observation would make you reconsider?
If you can’t name one, check whether the belief is a factual claim, a personal value—or a mixture. A value may guide what matters to you without being something evidence can disprove. A factual claim attached to it may still be testable.
This isn’t a demand to abandon convictions. It’s a way to see what they rest on, and to leave a fair path for learning something new.
