A Delegation Review Should Build Judgment

A useful review of delegated work should test more than whether the task was completed. It should also build the owner’s judgment.

Consider a teammate who reaches the agreed outcome using a different method than you would have chosen. If the method stayed within the agreed boundaries, the review can focus on what worked, what surprised them, and what decision they could own next time. If the outcome missed, first check whether the goal or authority was unclear before taking the work back.

That distinction matters: a review that rewards only imitation teaches people to wait for approval. A review that examines results and reasoning can make the next handoff more independent—and leave room to correct the plan when evidence changes.
