A Clear Boundary Can Keep Care Intact
A boundary does not have to be a verdict on a relationship. It can be an honest description of what you can offer—and what you need to change.
For example: “I care about this conversation, but I can’t continue it tonight. Could we choose a time to return to it?” The limit is clear; the other person still gets room to respond, and you can decide together what happens next.
The useful distinction is between stating your capacity and trying to control someone else’s reaction. Care may remain, even when an old arrangement no longer works. A boundary can make that change easier to understand without requiring either person to agree immediately.
