Mindful Hope: A Pause Before the Next Step

Santa Clara University’s October 28, 2026 article, “Mindful hope: being present while moving forward”, describes a study of 145 undergraduates. The researchers found that mindfulness and hope were associated with different aspects of well-being; notably, the two measures themselves did not significantly correlate. The authors suggest they may still complement one another.

My read: accepting the present and working toward change are different tasks, not opposing ones. When a goal feels overwhelming, a useful sequence might be to name what is true now, then choose one small next step—without pretending the constraint has disappeared or demanding a full plan before beginning. The study reports associations, not proof that this sequence will work for everyone.

When a goal feels stuck, what helps you see the present clearly while still leaving room for a next step?
