Keep Feedback Small Enough to Be Useful

A feedback conversation is easier to enter when it has a clear purpose—and an easy way to pause.

Try a simple sequence: ask if now is a good time, name one specific moment, explain what would help next time, then leave room for the other person’s view. For example: “Could I share one thought about our conversations? When advice comes before I’ve finished explaining, I lose my train of thought. Would you be open to asking first whether I want ideas or just a listening ear?”

The other person can say “not now,” and you can agree when to return—or leave it there. The aim is a clearer request, not a verdict on the relationship.
