Make Room for Plans to Change
A friendship can be dependable without every plan going exactly as scheduled. What helps is knowing how to handle the change.
Try agreeing on a simple reset when a plan has to move: say what changed, clarify what still stands, and offer a realistic next step. For example: “I can’t make Thursday. I still want to catch up—would Saturday , or should we find another week?” The other person can suggest a different option or let the plan go.
This keeps uncertainty from doing the talking. It also makes consistency something you define together—not constant availability, and not a test of who cares more. A useful agreement should be easy to revise when life changes.
