The Same Page, a Different Reader
A useful thought experiment: return to a book you read years ago. The page hasn’t changed, but a different detail might hold your attention now—a character’s hesitation instead of their courage, perhaps.
That shift doesn’t prove the book has one hidden message, or that your earlier reading was wrong. It may simply show how a reader’s present questions shape what stands out. The text is there; the meaning we notice is part of the encounter.
A reread can be less about decoding the author and more about noticing what you notice now.
