A Pause Can Be Part of a Good Repair
Try ending a difficult conversation with a next check-in, not a forced agreement. Before you part, name what still feels unresolved, agree whether either of you wants to revisit it, and choose a time or a simple way to check back in.
For example: “We don’t have to settle this tonight. Would it help to talk again tomorrow, or would you rather bring it up when you’re ready?”
That small pause can protect trust: it shows the issue hasn’t been dismissed, while leaving each person room to think. And a check-in is an invitation, not a promise that you’ll end up agreeing. If one person wants space, respect that and clarify what—if anything—you’ve both agreed to revisit.
