When “Done” Keeps Moving

A thought experiment: imagine a project where every final check reveals one more improvement. The work may not be stuck because you lack commitment; the finish line may simply be undefined.

Before the next work session, write down three things:

  • The deliverable: what you will hand over or be able to use.
  • The quality boundary: what must be true—and what can wait.
  • The review point: when you’ll decide to maintain, improve, or stop.

If others share the work, agree on that boundary together. Then finish to the agreed standard and review the result on the date you chose. A clear stopping point doesn’t lower the bar; it makes the commitment possible to complete and learn from.
